![]() ![]() Thank God for whatever you see and photograph □from that point. So you have to be patient, study where the animals live, what country, which jungle, when is the best season, what trees they eat from, decide which camera lenses to take, then just wait with equipment positioned for them to come close enough to you (a cell phone alone will not cut it!!). No picture is ever planned, but captured in the blink of an eye. I do rent a car for flexibility and tip when possible to give back ton the locals. I go without a guide because I like to photograph animals which takes more time than a simple tour can offer. If not, you will miss animals right in front of you. If you never been hear i recommend a tour in order to see more. General admission: 10.00 adults 10.00 children ages 2-17 free to Discovery Center Members and children age 1 and younger. All special events are included with admission to Discovery Center Museum unless otherwise noted. This was my forth time back to the Panama Rainforest Discovery Center in 9 years. Discovery Center offers a myriad of special events, programs, classes and more. You really should have a SUV with high clearance if driving here. I was certain my driver's compact car was going to end up with a flat tire of broken axle. It is also an incredibly narrow treacherous drive along the road filled with rocks, potholes and tree branches. Best to hire a guide if you want to see much. It is one of the premier bird watching places in the country. The 2-mile unpaved road that leads to the Discovery Center is the Pipeline Road. Better yet, invite your driver to join you on the hike as "guides" get in free. There is no cell service or taxis available here. Make sure you arrange for your driver to stay so that they can drive you back to the city. In retrospect, it may have been worth hiring a guide when walking the trails as I suspect we missed a lot of other animals. This experience of encountering wildlife in a natural setting made it all worth it. Hiked all the trails and was feeling like I may have wasted a lot of time and money coming up here but ran into a troupe of capuchin monkeys. Hearing the howler monkeys in the surrounding jungle was pretty cool. Climbed to the top of the tower overlooking the forest canopy. Once established, native plants require very little irrigation.Located in the Soberania National Park about a 30-40 min taxi/Uber from Panama City. Restoring balance to our ecosystems benefits wildlife, many of whom are dependent on the habitat provided by native vegetation. Growing native plants in our backyard gardens helps to restore some of the natural biodiversity of southern California which has been drastically reduced through development and urbanization. The use of native plants benefits our ecology by promoting biodiversity and reducing the use of water. In fact, a good way to kill a native plant is by overwatering it.Īlthough modern day Californians do not rely on native plants for food or medicine as native people once did, there are many other reasons why the cultivation and use of native plants is important. There are eight different types of sage plants, five varieties of manzanita, four species of wild lilac, and a variety of buckwheat, coffeeberry, currants, honeysuckle and hummingbird fuschia plus many others! All of our native plants are drought tolerant and require very little water. Our native garden contains over 750 plants, comprising over 50 different species. Many of the native plant medicinal applications first discovered by the Indian people have been successfully commercialized by modern day pharmaceutical companies and are used by millions of people around the world. Although there was an ample supply of fish and wildlife, the majority of the food they consumed came from the native plants. All of their food, medicine and shelter came from the plants or animals of the lagoon and coastal areas. There were no grocery or drugstores during these times. The earliest inhabitants of the Agua Hedionda Lagoon were the native Indians who lived on the shores and upland areas of the watershed. ![]()
